Is Vote Forward Moving Away from Letters?
Short answer: We haven't given up on letters.
Long answer: Letters remain a tool we use when they're the right tool for the job. Our 2025 research showed letters are most effective in lower-salience elections, and when they bring something new to the voter — a first-time letter, a new message, or a novel way of connecting.
- That's where we're using them this year:
- Down-Ballot Election Integrity Letters – state and local races where the evidence for letters is strongest
- Ground Truth Civic Action Follow-Up Letters – a novel c4 approach that pairs letters with deep conversations through our partner Swing Left.
- And continuing our New Voter Guides – the double-sided, interactive guides to help new voters navigate the the voting process
In high-profile elections like the 2026 midterms, voters are receiving a lot of messages from a lot of directions, and a letter has less room to make a difference. So we use letters where they can actually land, and use other tactics where they can't.
We are launching with the tactics listed above, and plan to continue adding letter-writing targets as we move through the election cycle. As we have updates, we’ll send out more emails about what we’ve added so that people can join in where it makes sense for them.
