Why is it important to use the letter templates?

Multiple randomized experiments have shown that Vote Forward’s hybrid handwritten/typed letter templates are effective at increasing voter turnout. The templates have also been carefully reviewed for legal and compliance issues, and include key information such as the election date and a unique opt-out code for each voter that must be present, legible, and correct. 

For these reasons, as well as accuracy in our data, we ask all volunteers to prepare their letters according to the instructions, and to refrain from making modifications such as adding to or changing the typed text, re-typing the letters, handwriting letters on personal stationery, or formatting the letter content for a different medium such as a postcard. These kinds of changes risk misinforming voters and/or decreasing the effectiveness of our efforts in an election year when voter turnout is critical.
